EVEREST THE PROMISE is a 1 hour broadcast documentary that will first premiere at a number of high profile documentary and mountain/adventure film festivals around the world and will hopefully pick up a few awards in the next few months.

Malvern Hill Construction – October 2011

The Haven display suite opened for the first time to the general public on Saturday 5 November. Visitors to the display enjoyed the Haven DVD in the cinema room with a free coffee before being taken on a tour of the display to view the brand new display living and bathroom. With the sun shining, visitors were also able to relax in the sunshine by the Yarra River in the peace and quiet. The VIP night and Grand Opening weekend was a great success with a number of apartments reserved.

For the 6 months prior to the expedition, Paul trained harder than he had ever done in his life. Aside from the lofty goal of life-peak aerobic fitness he also managed to increase his weight from his usual 72.5kg to almost 80kg, mostly in muscle, knowing that on Everest, climbers typically lose 20% of their body weight. As it turned out, Paul returned 10kg lighter.

Paul left on his trip on 1 April and was on the mountain for around 40 days waiting for the right weather window to climb to the summit which is 8848m high above sea level. Only a small window of about two weeks each year presents suitable conditions to reach summit (when the jet stream winds at the summit drop just before the onset of Monsoon season). Most of the time prior to the summit bid was spent acclimatizing moving up/ down to/ from progressively higher altitudes.

It took 6 days to reach the summit from Base Camp with summit day lasting 14 hours (mostly in the so-called “Death Zone”) on the back of 5 days of little sleep or food. Paul stayed on the summit for 30 minutes – just enough time to take in the magnificent view and take some photos of the achievement. See below photos.

 “The summit itself is the most magical place I have ever been and I will never forget my first sight of those prayer flags fluttering in the wind.”

Paul is glad to be home and is enjoying rest and quality family time. He made a promise to his 9-year old daughter, Jade, that he would come home safe – we are all extremely happy he has been able to keep this promise!

Donations of around $25,000 have been made in support of Paul’s summit to an Educational Scholarship Program for 60-70 underprivileged Nepalese children based in Kathmandu. The Program is run by Australian charity Sunrise Children’s Association Incorporated (SCAI) and their local partners Sunrise Orphanage Nepal. Bronwyn joined Hamton in May 2011 with over six years of accounts experience. She assists the Project and Company Finance Managers and is currently completing a Diploma of Accounting.

The Lighthouse Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing homeless 15-22 year olds, who suffer from backgrounds of long term abuse and neglect, with a safe home, support and counseling.

Matthew joined Hamton in 2011 as an assistant project manager, and is currently assisting Livio on Malvern Hill, Fifty Albert, Eden and Haven. Matt has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Built Environment), a Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics and two diplomas in Building and Building Surveying.

Jacqueline holds a Bachelor of Business Property (RMIT) and has worked in the property industry both locally and overseas for over 10 years.  Jacqueline has experience in master planned communities and apartment developments and since joining Hamton in 2008 has worked as a Development Manager on a range of projects including Society, Malvern Hill and Abbotsford.
