MARS Gallery Director, Andy Dinan, assisted Hamton in selecting the three contemporary artists – Emma Davies, Jeremy Kibel and James Hullick.

“We went through an extensive tendering process to finally select these three outstanding artists,” says Dinan. “They each have a sensibility that works with one another and will extend the beauty of this building.”

“This has provided a ground-breaking opportunity to explore how contemporary artists could extend the Fifty Albert architects’ vision (Elenberg Fraser) and the landscape whilst providing a lifetime of inspiration for the community,” says Dinan.

The artwork at Fifty Albert will:

- Engage, excite and motivate the community at large.
– Exist in a manner consistent with the overall building and landscape.
– Extend and excite the visual landscape.
– Endure in perpetuity.

Andy Dinan is coordinating the overall art strategy at Fifty Albert and is part of the Fifty Albert residents’ Lifestyle Team as Art Curator.

Emma Davies – The Cherry Blossom Chandeliers

Emma Davies will create an artistic interpretation of the cherry blossom in flower which will grace the ceiling of the foyer and lobby.

The cherry blossom tree is known for its short yet brilliant blooming season which ends with an inevitable fall to the ground. Cherry blossoms are connected to innocence, having fun and eating food while enjoying the beauty of the cherry blossoms than pondering deep thoughts, Emma intends to create a work that will capture the viewer’s attention enough to enable one to ponder.

“My process of discovery and inventions are largely experimental as I satisfy my curiosity for working with new materials and often unconventional modes of manufacture. My reward is in removing the material from its common role of packaging and being able to transform what is intrinsically ugly into something beautiful.” Emma Davies

Emma is a Melbourne based artist with an established reputation for innovation and creative installations for the public and the private commercial sector.  Emma works with polypropylene net packaging, heating and sculpting, continually testing the medium’s pliability in different creative applications.

Emma’s work can be seen throughout Australia and overseas in commercial outlets, as part of large scale collaborations and complex commissions in high profile properties.

Jeremy Kibel – Bird drawings wall in slate

Jeremy Kibel will etch a series of totally contemporary works exclusively developed for the Fifty Albert lobby entrance. These works will be delicate, haunting and yet romantic. The sensitive grey and black birds on twine will be etched into the warm grey slate stonewalls. Jeremy’s work will fit the tranquil, winter garden theme of the building, extending the cherry blossom lighting installation, with an elegant and a sophisticated sensibility that his drawing has internationally been applauded for. The simplicity of these drawings will complement the pan Asian design and command respect by visitors and residents combined.

“I see the universe as something in flux, passing in and out of existence, that a proceeding thought can transport you to another state of being. With this in mind, these works are made in honour of all my friends that have passed on. For me, creating these works is a gift to them, in hope that they have moved on to a happier state.”  Jeremy Kibel

Jeremy has over twenty years’ experience of producing major works for private collections, institutions and commercial gallery shows. Jeremy is renowned for his sensitive fine drawing which is often utilising a paper technique that he pioneered and pays homage to a Japanese sensibility of negative space.

James Hullick – The Hypno Electro Kensho: A Sound Seat

James Hullick is a Melbourne-based composer, pianist, sound artist, sculptor, audio  
technologist/programmer, machine maker and researcher. James’ work is characterised by an 
unusual ability to use sound to engage in social issues and concepts. His sonic works have been 
presented in Asia, North America and Europe for a variety of ensembles and electronic formats.

Seeking to compliment the immersive zen architectural experiences of Fifty Albert, James will create an
elegant interactive sound bench. Technology will be used to make the experience interactive. 
Motion sensors will monitor the movement of people through the sound bench space. Sounds made for
the installation will be soft and subtle, with a mixture of ambient electronic audio and sound recorded
from nature.

The Japanese word Kensho means “seeing into one’s original nature”. When combined with the suffixes “hypno” and “electro” the result is an aesthetic that acknowledges ancient wisdom as part of the continuum of technology of modern times. This sound scape will support a meditative experience that is targeted at nurturing the inner natures of those who will experience it.

The Sound Seat will be located at the entrance of the building for the Fifty Albert residents, their visitors and the wider community to enjoy.

EVEREST THE PROMISE is a 1 hour broadcast documentary that will first premiere at a number of high profile documentary and mountain/adventure film festivals around the world and will hopefully pick up a few awards in the next few months.

Malvern Hill Construction – October 2011

The Haven display suite opened for the first time to the general public on Saturday 5 November. Visitors to the display enjoyed the Haven DVD in the cinema room with a free coffee before being taken on a tour of the display to view the brand new display living and bathroom. With the sun shining, visitors were also able to relax in the sunshine by the Yarra River in the peace and quiet. The VIP night and Grand Opening weekend was a great success with a number of apartments reserved.

For the 6 months prior to the expedition, Paul trained harder than he had ever done in his life. Aside from the lofty goal of life-peak aerobic fitness he also managed to increase his weight from his usual 72.5kg to almost 80kg, mostly in muscle, knowing that on Everest, climbers typically lose 20% of their body weight. As it turned out, Paul returned 10kg lighter.

Paul left on his trip on 1 April and was on the mountain for around 40 days waiting for the right weather window to climb to the summit which is 8848m high above sea level. Only a small window of about two weeks each year presents suitable conditions to reach summit (when the jet stream winds at the summit drop just before the onset of Monsoon season). Most of the time prior to the summit bid was spent acclimatizing moving up/ down to/ from progressively higher altitudes.

It took 6 days to reach the summit from Base Camp with summit day lasting 14 hours (mostly in the so-called “Death Zone”) on the back of 5 days of little sleep or food. Paul stayed on the summit for 30 minutes – just enough time to take in the magnificent view and take some photos of the achievement. See below photos.

 “The summit itself is the most magical place I have ever been and I will never forget my first sight of those prayer flags fluttering in the wind.”

Paul is glad to be home and is enjoying rest and quality family time. He made a promise to his 9-year old daughter, Jade, that he would come home safe – we are all extremely happy he has been able to keep this promise!

Bronwyn joined Hamton in May 2011 with over six years of accounts experience. She assists the Project and Company Finance Managers and is currently completing a Diploma of Accounting.

The Lighthouse Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing homeless 15-22 year olds, who suffer from backgrounds of long term abuse and neglect, with a safe home, support and counseling.

We would like to thank our JV partners for allowing us to contribute to such a great cause including ISPT.

The office encompasses three boardrooms; one known as ‘The Cargo Box’ as a cargo box has literally been placed within the office, a sunlit reception area and a fully equipped kitchen with a large balcony, allowing for the Hamton staff to relax and unwind after a busy day.

Karin has over 6 years experience in the Melbourne property industry.  As a previously licensed REIV member she managed large property management portfolios, and comes to Hamton after just completing a Diploma of Project Management at Swinburne and 4 years working with one of Victoria’s leading residential developers. 

Matthew joined Hamton in 2011 as an assistant project manager, and is currently assisting Livio on Malvern Hill, Fifty Albert, Eden and Haven. Matt has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Built Environment), a Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics and two diplomas in Building and Building Surveying.
