In The Community
The team at Hamton prides itself on making a regular contribution to the communities within which it operates. Some recent examples include:
May 2010 - Paul Hameister's Mt McKinley Climb
|
On the 28th of May I fly out to have a crack at my 5th of the Seven Summits - Mt McKinley (or "Denali", which means "the Great One" in the language of the local indigenous people) in Alaska, the highest peak in North America. Denali has a reputation as one of the world's greatest expedition challenges. This Year I am raising money for Canteen. In particular, I am hoping to support an extraordinarily strong young lady, Amelia Fuller, who happens to be the niece of a very good mate with whom I have been friends for over 25 years. You can support me by supporting Amelia and making a tax deductible donation to Canteen via the following web link: |

Movember
|
Five of the Hamton boys (Scott, Cam, Chris, Matt and Al) formed a team for Movember this year. They all put down their razors for one month and grew moustaches to help raise awareness and funds for mens health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men. What many people do not appreciate is that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime, many of whom don't seek help. Facts like this convinced the Hamton boys to form a team and get involved. Movember is not in its sixth year and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation and beyondblue: the national depression initiative. The Hamton team raised a total of $4,345 for this great cause which is a fantastic result. Thank you to all the generous sponsors. Click here to visit the Movember website.

FareShare - rescuing food. fighting hunger.
|
In August 2008, Hamton staff spent the day at the FareShare kitchen in Abbotsford. The team spent the day preparing 1200 meals for distribution to disadvantaged people, homeless shelters and various charity organisations across Victoria. Since 2001, FareShare have given away healthy, nutritious meals to the hungry and the homeless in Victoria, using food donated by businesses. FareShare 'rescue' food, meaning food that would otherwise be wasted and end up in landfill. The food is still perfectly edible, but it could be fruit and vegetables that don't look perfect, meat that has been ground too fine by a butcher, high fibre bread that hasn't been sold on the day it is baked. Click here to learn more about FareShare or find out how you can help this organisation. |

June - Run Melbourne
|
7 Hamton team members took part in the 2008 Run Melbourne to contribute to the fundraising drive by the Fitzgerald Foundation. The Fitzgerald Foundation acknowledges the significant incidence of brain cancer, the considerable lack of general funding in this area and a need to create a greater support network for young sufferers. |

Oxfam Trailwalker 2007
|
With not nearly enough training (and a couple of badly timed bugs – Sarah got the flu and Paul lost 5kg in the two weeks before the event with gastro), the Hamton team (Paul Hameister, Chris Szworak, Matt Malseed and Sarah Halkyard) armed with our secret weapon Sally Irons and Tim Hubbard as support crew, stood at the starting gate of the 2007 Oxfam Trailwalker. |
